Built upon the Carolina 5.0 rim set, these wheels are amazingly fast. Featuring our Carolina Futureproof hubs or Industry 9 classics. These wheels come stock built with Sapim Lasers - fast, light, strong. However you've your choice of Sapim spokes if you wish to change it around with CX Xrays or CX Sprints. Each wheelset is built to your specifications. The Carolina 5.0 rimset is a 50mm deep rim that sits right at 24.8mm in width - perfect for both 25cc thru 30cc tires. Each rim uses Northwest epoxy and features a weave of Toray carbon fiber. Attention is paid to every aspect of these rims allowing for perfect builds every time.
The rims weigh in at ~435 grams +/- 10 and are available in both 24 hole and 28 hole configurations. Carolina rims are rated for riders 235 lbs or less. Choose your cross pattern - 2 x for a more rigid ride and 3 x for a touch of give. Wheel weights will vary depending on builds with fronts as low as ~650 grams and rears starting at ~770 grams depending on hub and spoke selection.
Carolina road rims are hooked vs hookless for the greatest possible combination of tire and rim combinations. Hooked rims provide more stability and tire retention, especially at higher tire pressures. Compared to auto or motorcycle tires, road tires have thinner casings whther they are 700x25 or 700x30 or ortherwise and are not stiff enough to hold themselves in place in extreme use. In other words, the tire diameter can enlarge, leading to a risk of blowoff at high pressures. Hooks serve as the guards for the tire beads by preventing the tire from expanding in diameter. Hooked rims increase the pressure at which the tire stays safe and secure on the rim. The tire pressure limit of our hooked road rims is 115psi and 80psi for gravel rims. The interior width of the rim is 18.5mm.
All wheels come stock with black Sapim Polyax Nipples (14mm) however you can custom order any color you wish. For tubeless set up, choose a standard aluminum valve stems or an Orange Seal premier valve stem set with a retaining nut to match your spoke colors (for all except lime green). Industry 9 hubs are kept in stock in limited numbers and colors. Often with long lead times from i9, we ask you give us a call or plan early on availability of the Industry 9 option.
